Cholcom PDF — App Privacy Policy
How the Cholcom PDF mobile app handles your information.
Last updated: 3 October 2026
Cholcom PDF (“the app”) is a PDF tools application published by Cholcom Limited (“Cholcom”, “we”, “us” or “our”).
This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the Cholcom PDF mobile application.
In summary:
- your PDF files and document contents are processed locally on your device;
- your documents are not uploaded to Cholcom;
- Cholcom does not operate an account system for the app;
- Cholcom does not use its own in-app analytics to track how you use your documents;
- the free version of the app displays advertising using Google AdMob;
- Google may process certain device, advertising, interaction, diagnostic and technical information in connection with AdMob;
- optional purchases are processed through Google Play; and
- privacy or deletion requests concerning personal data held by Cholcom can be made by emailing support@cholcom.com.
This app-specific Privacy Policy supplements the main Cholcom Limited Privacy Policy available at https://cholcom.com/privacy. The main Privacy Policy explains more generally how Cholcom Limited handles personal data across its business and services.
1. Your Documents Stay on Your Device
Cholcom PDF is designed so that the PDF files and documents you work with are processed locally on your device.
Functions such as viewing PDFs, creating PDFs, converting documents, merging PDF files, splitting PDF files, compressing PDF files, rotating pages, rearranging pages, extracting pages, editing supported PDF content, scanning documents, saving documents and other supported PDF operations are performed on your device unless a feature is clearly identified within the app as requiring an external service.
Under the current design of Cholcom PDF, your PDF documents are not uploaded to Cholcom’s servers for these operations. Cholcom does not receive, store or have access to the content of the documents you process using the app.
This means that, for normal PDF processing within the app, Cholcom does not receive information such as text contained within your PDF files, photographs contained in your documents, scanned document contents, signatures within your documents, names appearing inside documents, addresses appearing inside documents, financial information contained within documents, health information contained within documents, or other information contained within the files you choose to process.
You remain responsible for deciding which files you process using the app and for protecting access to your device.
2. On-Device Processing
The core document-processing functionality of Cholcom PDF is designed to operate locally on your device.
Where the app uses supported on-device technologies, including on-device machine learning or optical character recognition for features such as recognising text in a scanned document, the relevant document processing takes place on your device. Your documents are not sent to Cholcom merely because you use an on-device processing feature.
Where a feature relies entirely upon an on-device machine-learning component, the document itself is not uploaded by Cholcom to a machine-learning provider for processing.
If we introduce a future feature that requires cloud processing or transmission of document content to an external service, we will provide appropriate information before or when that feature is introduced and update this Privacy Policy where necessary.
3. Data Cholcom Collects
Cholcom Limited does not collect, receive or store the contents of documents processed locally through Cholcom PDF.
The app currently does not require you to create a Cholcom account, register a user profile, sign in to Cholcom, upload your documents to Cholcom, or maintain cloud storage with Cholcom.
We also do not currently operate our own in-app analytics system for tracking the contents of documents or your document-processing activity.
However, certain third-party services integrated into or associated with the app may process limited information for their own or applicable service purposes. These primarily include Google AdMob, for advertising in the free version of the app, and Google Play, for optional purchases and distribution of the app. These services are explained below.
4. Advertising — Google AdMob
The free version of Cholcom PDF displays advertisements using Google AdMob. AdMob is an advertising service provided by Google.
When advertisements are displayed, Google and authorised advertising technology providers may automatically collect or process limited information about your device, app usage and advertising interactions. Depending on your device, operating system, location, privacy settings and applicable consent choices, this may include your IP address (which may be used to infer approximate location); app interactions such as app launches, taps, ad impressions, clicks and video or advertising interactions; diagnostic and performance information; device or other identifiers, including advertising identifiers; device, operating-system and application information; and information used for advertising delivery, measurement, frequency management, fraud prevention and security.
Cholcom does not provide the contents of your PDF documents or personal files to Google AdMob for advertising purposes. Your document contents are not used by Cholcom to select or personalise advertisements.
Google processes advertising-related information in accordance with its applicable privacy, advertising and data-processing terms. Depending on the particular processing activity, Google or participating advertising technology providers may act as controllers or processors under applicable data protection law. Where required by applicable law, advertising-related processing that requires consent will only take place after the necessary consent has been obtained.
For further information about how Google collects and uses information through services such as AdMob, please review Google’s Privacy Policy and Google’s information about how it uses data from apps that use its services.
5. Personalised and Non-Personalised Advertising
Depending upon your region and privacy choices, the advertisements shown through AdMob may be personalised or non-personalised.
Personalised advertising may use information about your interests or previous activity where permitted and where the necessary consent has been obtained.
Non-personalised advertising may still involve processing certain information necessary to deliver advertisements, limit how often an advertisement is shown, detect fraud, measure advertising performance, generate aggregated reporting, or comply with legal and security requirements.
Choosing non-personalised advertising therefore does not necessarily mean that no device or technical information is processed.
6. Advertising Consent in the UK, EEA and Switzerland
Where required, Cholcom PDF uses an appropriate consent mechanism for advertising-related processing.
For users in the United Kingdom, European Economic Area and Switzerland, advertising-related processing is managed in accordance with applicable consent requirements and relevant Google advertising requirements. Where required, you will be given appropriate choices regarding personalised advertising, relevant storage or access technologies, advertising-related data processing, and participating advertising technology providers. Where applicable, personalised advertising will only be used where the necessary consent has been obtained.
You can review or change your advertising privacy choices using Settings → Privacy options within Cholcom PDF, where that option is available for your region and app version.
Changing your choice does not necessarily remove advertising altogether. It may instead result in different forms of advertising being shown.
7. Paid or Ad-Free Versions
Where an eligible paid or ad-free option is offered, purchasing that option may remove advertising from Cholcom PDF. The exact features associated with an in-app purchase will be displayed before you complete the purchase. Removing advertising reduces or removes AdMob advertising activity within the paid experience, subject to the functionality of the version you have purchased.
8. In-App Purchases and Google Play
Cholcom PDF may offer optional in-app purchases through Google Play. Purchases are processed by Google through Google Play. Cholcom does not receive or store your full payment-card details when Google processes the payment.
Google may process information including Google account information, payment information, purchase details, transaction identifiers, billing information, device information, fraud-prevention information, and information required to administer the purchase. Google processes this information according to its own applicable terms and privacy policies.
Cholcom may receive limited transaction-related information necessary to determine matters such as whether a purchase was successful, which product or entitlement was purchased, whether premium functionality should be enabled, subscription or purchase status where applicable, and information required for customer support or accounting. We do not receive your complete payment-card information from Google Play.
9. App Permissions
Cholcom PDF may request access to device features or permissions required to provide functionality that you choose to use. Depending upon your device and operating-system version, these may include permissions or system access relating to files, documents, photos, media, camera access, notifications, or storage.
For example, file access may be needed so you can select a PDF; storage access may be required to save a generated PDF; camera access may be required if you choose to scan a physical document; and photo or media access may be required if you choose an image to convert into a PDF.
These permissions are intended to be used only to provide the relevant feature. Granting permission does not mean Cholcom automatically receives the contents accessible through that permission. Where the relevant processing is performed locally, the information remains on your device unless you separately choose to send, share, upload or export it elsewhere.
You can manage app permissions through your device settings. Disabling a permission may prevent the corresponding feature from working.
10. Camera and Scanning
If you use a document-scanning feature, the app may access your device camera to capture an image of a document. The captured image may then be processed locally to create or modify a PDF.
Under the app’s current design, Cholcom does not automatically receive copies of documents scanned through the app. If on-device text recognition is used, the recognition process is performed locally where the feature is designed as an on-device function.
11. Files Selected From Your Device
When you choose a file through your device’s file picker or similar system interface, the app accesses the selected file so it can perform the operation you requested. Selecting a file does not cause Cholcom to upload the document to its own servers.
Files remain under your control on your device unless you choose to save them to another location, share them with another app, upload them to a cloud service, or otherwise export them using functionality outside Cholcom’s local processing. If you share a document with another application or third-party service, that third party’s privacy practices will apply to the information you share with it.
12. Information We Do Not Collect Through Normal PDF Processing
Under the current app architecture, Cholcom does not collect the following merely because you use the PDF tools: the contents of your PDF documents; the text contained in your PDF documents; document images; scanned document contents; PDF passwords you enter for local processing; signatures contained within documents; document metadata solely because it exists inside a locally processed file; or copies of files solely because you open or edit them within the app.
This statement relates to Cholcom’s own processing. It does not mean that third-party platforms such as Google necessarily process no device or technical information when you use Google services integrated with or associated with the app.
13. What Cholcom PDF Does Not Do
Under its current configuration, Cholcom PDF does not upload your PDF files to Cholcom for normal document processing; does not store your PDF files on Cholcom servers; does not require a Cholcom account; does not require you to sign in with Cholcom; does not use document contents to target advertisements; does not sell your PDF documents; does not sell your document contents; does not use our own analytics to analyse the contents of your documents; and does not give Google AdMob access to your PDF contents for advertising purposes.
14. Data Sharing
Cholcom does not share the contents of documents processed locally by the app because Cholcom does not receive those documents through normal local processing.
Limited information may nevertheless be processed or shared in connection with third-party services described in this Policy. This includes Google services used for advertising, app distribution, purchases, security, fraud prevention, and related platform services.
Other disclosures may occur if necessary to comply with applicable law, comply with a lawful court order, respond to a legally valid request from an authority, prevent fraud or abuse, protect legal rights, or investigate a security incident. Such circumstances do not change the local-processing design of your PDF documents.
15. Data Retention
Because Cholcom does not receive or store your locally processed PDF documents, Cholcom does not maintain a server-side retention period for those documents.
Documents saved to your device remain on your device until you delete them, your operating system removes them, another application modifies or deletes them, or you otherwise manage them through your device.
Advertising, payment and platform-related information processed by Google is retained according to Google’s applicable policies and settings.
Where Cholcom receives limited personal information directly from you — for example, when you contact us for support — we retain it only for as long as reasonably necessary for responding to your enquiry, providing support, maintaining appropriate business records, investigating a complaint, protecting legal rights, or complying with applicable law. Information no longer required will be deleted or otherwise handled in accordance with Cholcom’s applicable retention practices.
16. Data Security
Because the core PDF-processing functionality operates locally, the contents of your documents generally benefit from remaining on your device rather than being routinely transmitted to Cholcom.
You should nevertheless take appropriate steps to protect your device, including where appropriate using a device passcode, enabling biometric or other secure authentication, keeping your operating system updated, downloading apps only from trusted sources, protecting access to sensitive files, and avoiding unauthorised device access.
Cholcom applies appropriate measures to personal data that it does process. However, no device, application or electronic system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
17. Third-Party Services
Google services used in connection with Cholcom PDF operate under Google’s own applicable privacy terms. When a third-party service acts independently of Cholcom, that provider may determine its own purposes and means of processing. You should review the privacy information provided by the relevant third party where appropriate.
Third-party services associated with the app currently include Google AdMob, for advertising, and Google Play, for distribution and optional purchases. If additional services that materially affect personal-data processing are introduced, this Privacy Policy will be updated where appropriate.
18. Your Data Protection Rights
Depending upon the circumstances and the personal data involved, UK and other applicable data protection laws may give you rights including the right to be informed; the right to access personal data; the right to correct inaccurate information; the right to request deletion in appropriate circumstances; the right to restrict processing in appropriate circumstances; the right to object to certain processing; the right to data portability where applicable; rights relating to certain forms of automated decision-making; and the right to withdraw consent where processing depends upon consent.
These rights are subject to applicable conditions and legal exemptions.
19. Requests for Access, Correction or Deletion
Because Cholcom PDF processes your PDF documents locally, Cholcom does not ordinarily possess copies of your documents that it could access or delete on your behalf. You can normally delete locally stored files yourself using Cholcom PDF, your device’s file manager, your device storage settings, or another application that manages the file.
If you believe Cholcom Limited holds personal data relating to you and you wish to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or another applicable data protection right, please email support@cholcom.com. Please provide enough information for us to understand your request and identify any relevant information we may hold. We may take reasonable steps to verify your identity before acting upon a request where necessary.
Where the information concerned is processed independently by Google in connection with Google AdMob, Google Play or another Google service, Google’s own privacy and data-rights procedures may apply.
Further information about how Cholcom Limited handles personal data generally is available in our main Privacy Policy at https://cholcom.com/privacy.
20. Account Deletion
Cholcom PDF currently does not require or provide a Cholcom user account. Accordingly, there is no Cholcom PDF account that needs to be deleted when you stop using the app.
You may remove the app from your device at any time. You may also delete files created or saved by the app using your device’s normal file-management functionality.
If a future version of Cholcom PDF introduces Cholcom account creation, we will update the app and this Privacy Policy as necessary to provide appropriate account and associated data-deletion mechanisms.
21. Advertising Choices and Deletion Requests Are Different
Changing or withdrawing an advertising choice does not necessarily delete advertising-related information previously processed by Google. Likewise, a request sent to Cholcom cannot necessarily delete personal information that Google independently controls.
For advertising preferences, use the available privacy controls within the app and relevant Google/device privacy settings. For personal data held directly by Cholcom, contact support@cholcom.com. For personal data controlled independently by Google, Google’s applicable privacy tools and request procedures should be used.
22. Children
Cholcom PDF is intended for a general adult audience and is intended for individuals aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect document contents or account information from children through Cholcom PDF.
Because advertising services may involve third-party processing, we configure and operate advertising in accordance with applicable platform and advertising requirements.
If you believe that a child has provided personal data directly to Cholcom in circumstances requiring action, please contact support@cholcom.com. We will review the matter and take appropriate action where required.
23. International Processing
Although PDF documents processed locally in Cholcom PDF are not uploaded to Cholcom, third-party providers such as Google may operate systems internationally. Advertising, payment or platform-related information may therefore be processed in jurisdictions outside the United Kingdom.
Where Cholcom itself is responsible for a restricted international transfer of personal data, we apply an appropriate transfer mechanism as required by applicable UK data protection law. Google’s processing is also governed by its applicable contractual, privacy and transfer arrangements.
24. Automated Decision-Making
Cholcom does not currently use the contents of your locally processed PDF documents to make solely automated decisions about you that produce legal effects or similarly significant effects.
Automated systems associated with third-party services may be used for purposes such as advertising selection, advertising delivery, fraud detection, security, abuse prevention, or transaction processing. Those systems are governed by the applicable provider’s own arrangements.
25. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes may be made where, for example, app functionality changes, monetisation changes, advertising arrangements change, new third-party services are introduced, data-processing practices change, applicable law changes, platform requirements change, or privacy or security practices are improved.
The date at the top of this Privacy Policy indicates when it was most recently updated. Where a material change affects how personal data is processed, we will take appropriate steps to provide notice where required.
26. Main Cholcom Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy specifically concerns the Cholcom PDF mobile application. Cholcom Limited’s broader data protection practices are described in our main Privacy Policy at https://cholcom.com/privacy.
Where this app-specific policy deals specifically with the operation of Cholcom PDF, it should be read together with the main Cholcom Privacy Policy.
